Birstall Parish Council were deeply saddened to hear the tragic news of the death of ex-Councillor, Mr John Jenkins, who was tragically killed in a road traffic accident on Tuesday, 21st April 2020.

John served as a Parish Councillor for four years from 2015 to 2019, he was a very active member of the Council and in the Community.

Greengate Lane Cemetery

Questions are being asked by the public why the Parish Council's Cemetery is still open.

The Health Protection (Coronavirus, Restrictions) (England) Regulations 2020, Section 5(8) reads:

"A person who is responsible for a crematorium or burial ground must ensure that, during the emergency period, the crematorium is closed to members of the public, except for funerals or burials"

Children still playing in large groups

The Police have just notified the Clerk of a group of 10 children playing on School Lane Playing Fields. This area has been fenced and closed off and they are trespassing.

They have been moved off, but I must ask you to keep your children at home and to inform you that the Police have the powers to issue fines to those who are not adhering to the rules.

Please help to save lives and stay at home.

Birstall Gala 2020 - CANCELLED

It is with deep regret that due to the Coronavirus epidemic and the Governments advice on mass gatherings, the Council has taken the decision to cancel this years Gala which was scheduled for 20 June 2020.

Office Closure

The decision has been taken to close the Parish Council offices to the public to reduce the risk of infection. Whilst the office and Estates staff are still working, we need to put measures in place to protect the staff until such changes are forced upon us to self isolate or the Country chooses to go into lock down.
